How to reset Joomla admin password

There are two ways how you can change the Joomla website user password.

1. This option works for any user except SuperUser (Administrator).

  • First of all, you need to locate the dashboard login page and click on the Forgot your passwordoption:

  • On the next page, you need to input the contact email address set up at the registration and submit the password reset request:

  • If the email address is correct, the password reminder will be emailed to you, and you will be able to recover your Joomla profile access.

2. The second option allows you to reset any user password, including SuperUser/Administrator.

  • Log into your cPanel account and click on the phpMyAdmin menu:

  • In case you do not remember the name of the exact database assigned to this website, you may find it in the configuration.php file, which is located in the root folder of your Joomla installation:

  • Inside phpMyAdmin find the correct database name and click on it:

  • A list of tables will show up. Scroll down to find the one called users and click on it:

  • Look up the user you want to change the password for and click on the Edit button against it:

  • In the opened window, locate the password option and replace the current password with the new one in the Value column. Then change the function to MD5 in the Function column and click Go

That's it!
